Arrival for International Guests

Many of our guests travel from across Europe. Heiligenhafen is easy to reach whether you are coming from the north (Scandinavia) or from the south (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux). Below you will find the most convenient routes.

Arrival From the North (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland)

Heiligenhafen is located directly on the route towards Fehmarn and is easily accessible from all Scandinavian countries.

From Denmark

Travel south via the E47/E45 towards Germany. After crossing the border, continue on the A1 motorway towards Fehmarn and take the exit “Heiligenhafen Mitte”. This is the fastest and most direct route from Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus and Jutland.

From Sweden & Norway

The quickest route is via the Öresund Bridge (Malmö → Copenhagen) and then south on the E47 towards Germany. Alternatively, several ferry connections are available:

• Göteborg – Kiel (Stena Line)
• Oslo – Kiel (Color Line)
• Malmö – Travemünde (Finnlines)

From Kiel or Travemünde, Heiligenhafen is approximately 45–60 minutes away via the A1 motorway.

Important Notes for International Drivers

• Germany drives on the right-hand side.
• Some sections of the Autobahn have no speed limit (recommended speed: 130 km/h).
• No border checks between Denmark and Germany (Schengen area).

Arrival From the South (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux)

If you are travelling from southern Germany or neighbouring countries, Heiligenhafen is easily reached via the A1 motorway heading north towards Fehmarn.

• From Hamburg: approx. 1 hour 15 minutes via A1
• From Bremen: approx. 2 hours via A1
• From Hanover: approx. 2.5 hours via A7 → A1
• From the Netherlands/Belgium: follow A7/A1 northbound

Take the exit “Heiligenhafen Mitte” and follow the signs towards the town centre or harbour area.

Arrival by Ferry

Several ferry routes from Scandinavia and the Baltics arrive in northern Germany:

• Kiel: Stena Line (Göteborg), Color Line (Oslo)
• Travemünde: Finnlines (Malmö), TT-Line (Trelleborg)
• Rostock: Stena Line & TT-Line (Trelleborg)

From all ports, Heiligenhafen is reachable within 45–90 minutes by car.
